Universiti Malaya (UM) has been approved by the Head of the Road Transport Department Malaysia to sell Special Vehicle Registration Numbers by using the plate number prefix "UM" which is an abbreviation for the Universiti Malaya.
The objective of this sale is one of the University's income generation initiatives to increase funds while promoting UM's name as the leading university in Malaysia and among the best in the world. Proceeds from the sale of these vehicles’ special registration number will be used for Research, Development and Student Affairs activities. In addition, this initiative can also attract more UM alumni to contribute to the University and further strengthen the ties between UM alumni and the University.
